ACTIVITIES OF EPOS
(See links below to the Shows/Displays and Meetings Pages of EPOS)
Shows and Displays:
The Society holds usually an Annual Display of all its members’ flowering plants as well as a further Annual Show at which the flowering orchids of members are judged and awarded. Members are also encouraged to assist with these events which provide an excellent opportunity to members to meet and know their fellow members.
Meetings:
Members attend monthly meetings with other hobbyist growers of the area, which are normally held on the third Thursday of each month. We meet in the Newton Park Library Auditorium on the corner of Fourth Avenue and Hurd Street, Newton Park, Port Elizabeth. There is usually an interesting talk by a local or out of town speaker on some subject related to orchids and members are encouraged to bring their flowering orchid plants to the meetings for the plant table which will be discussed during the meeting. Tea, coffee and eats are available at the meeting and an entrance fee of R5.00 is charged which also enters you in a lucky draw for an orchid plant.
Details of our meetings, speakers and other items of interest are provided in a monthly newsletter and from time to time we also arrange visits to some of our members’ shade houses as lots can be gained from seeing how other members grow their orchids.
