Tridactyle bicaudata is usually found in large clumps as an epiphyte of cool moist forested regions and often grows on tall trees, usually in shaded conditions. It also occurs on rocky outcrops in fully exposed conditions. A more robust form of this species occurs in large colonies in fully exposed conditions on coastal sandstone outcrops.
The name "bicaudata" is derived from Latin meaning "two tailed" and refers to the two side-lobes of the lip.
